The Greatest GiftBy Scott L. Samber
When I was a kid I thought the greatest gift was something simple like a bike or toy,
But after those things were gone I seen how they only brought me temporary joy.
As I entered my teens, it was my independence that I fought for and cherished,
But as I got older, the amount I thought I had, dwindled and seemed to perish.
Then I met her, and I truly thought I found the answer to the question,
But when we were torn apart, I feared life had only taught me another painful lesson.
I scrambled foolishly, trying to replace what I had lost,
But the pain was so intense that I had locked away the memory of what my mistake had cost.
Even dumber still, I tried to substitute it with sex,
Which only added to my misery, curse or hex.
Within a couple of years I had a couple of daughters, whom both I Loved so much.
I married the mother of the second one, but it didn’t take long before I seen it was just a crutch.
The presents of my daughters lives made me wonder if Life is not greatest gift,
But the lack of their presents in my life, as well as mine in theirs, gave another gift a little lift.
Don’t get me wrong. I do think Life is among the best,
But now I am convinced that there is another one that’s a bit better than the rest.
For instance, even animals have the blessed chance to live,
But they don’t know what they’re missing because they don’t have this other gift to give.
The Greatest Gift I am talking about is only the purest form of Love,
You’ll know when your witnessing it, because it’s an unmistakable gift from GOD above.
It will seem to empower you, filling all the nooks and cracks,
You’ll feel it with every ounce of your being, showing how the others lacks.
If you still doubt these words, just wait until you truly feel it.
You too will be willing to lay down your Life to save the one you Love, proving these words have merit.
